Lego and Robots! STEAM Meath!
Today was the first day of our STEAM project – incorporating science, technology, engineering, art and maths. This is a three year programme. We are one of eleven primary schools in Meath to be awarded the programme. There were 26 applications so this is a great success for us. We started in the junior room with an introduction to engineering and the different types of engineers – civil, mechanical and structural. We designed our own funfair on our new Lego mats using Lego and tested out different structures for our funfair. The senior room side of the programme is based on robots and learning coding. We were introduced to the background of different robots such as Robot hoovers, the Mars Rover, Atlas and Spot Robots, the difference between robots and machines and artificial intelligence. We received our Lego Education SPIKE Essential Kits. This is a tool box for making Lego and a basis for programming robots and coding them with hubs, motors and sensors. We then worked with our kits to make Merry go Rounds - programming our robots to do different things at different speeds!
